I was
born in Greenock, on the Firth of Clyde, West of Scotland, UK. The
eldest of five children, I count myself blessed indeed, to be able
to look back on a happy and secure childhood. This I owe to my mother
and father who brought us up on the sound teachings of the Bible
and as Mum is wont to say, on 'good plain, nourishing food!'
In every way, we had an excellent start in life.
My education began at Beltrees Kindergarten school on the Esplanade
- run by a very special lady named Miss Francis - where I learned
how to steal biscuits from the tin in the kitchen! I can still remember
the pleasure of creating pictures with my little tin box of coloured
pastel chalks. Miss Francis used to enthrall me with her illustrated
story each morning.

One of
my early masterpieces
